Job Summary:
To provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for an individual(s) who are deaf or hard of hearing. Interpreting will be done on a program or community site and can be up to 7.5 hours a day, M-F.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must possess:
- Arizona Licensure
- RID/NAD certification or Undergraduate or Graduate Degree from an accredited College or University with a major study in a field related to either interpretation or American Sign Language (ASL) studies
- Ability to sign in various situations, as well as to perform in challenging, creative, formal working environments, both on-site and virtually
- Excellent customer service skills. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships (to include but not limited to) veterans, leadership, stakeholders, and peers
- Must possess fluency of sign language on the entire sign language continuum to effectively facilitate communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing employees and hearing employees
- Must have minimum 1 years’ experience as an ASL interpreter

- Arizona Licensure for sign language or

- Possess an American Sign Language certificate acceptable by Accel as proof of ability to sign to someone who is deaf or hard of hearing
- Ability to sign in various situations/environments, as well as to perform in challenging, creative, formal working environments, both on-site and virtually
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships (to include but not limited to) veterans, leadership, stakeholders, and peers
- Must have minimum 1 years’ experience as an ASL interpreter
Language Skills:
Ability to respond to common inquiries from immediate supervisors and to communicate with co-workers regarding student issues. Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and complete educational documents used in the school setting.
Reasoning Abilities:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear the spoken word at a normal volume and at 20 feet with your back turned.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. At times employees may, with assistance, lift and/or move up to an individual student’s body weight.
Work Environment:
The work environment is representative of what an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Students may exhibit inappropriate physical behavior which may include hitting, biting, kicking, etc.

Qualifications Requirements:
· Valid Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, required or ability to obtain one
· Must have one year of active ASL Interpreter experience
· Must be a US citizen
· Must possess an AZ Driver’s License
· Must have ability to sign in various situations as well as to perform in challenging working environments, both on-site and in the community
· Must have excellent customer service skills, the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and managers
Education and Experience:
· Arizona Licensed American Sign Language Interpreter per ARS 36-1973 or per ARS 36-1946, OR
· Currently active on the Registry of Sign Language Interpreters for the Deaf, OR
· Certified through the National Interpreters Certification, OR
· Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), OR
· Certificate of Interpretation (CI), OR
· Certificate of Transliteration (CT), OR
· Comprehensive ASL Skills Certificate (CSC), OR
· Interpreter Certificate (IC), OR
· Transliterate Certification for ASL (TC), OR
· Certified by the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters, OR
· Certified by the National Association of the Deaf, OR
· Document of ASL proficiency interview rating of Intermediate or above, OR
· ASL Teacher Certificate
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
