Responsibilities
- Provide real-time interpretation services across various platforms, including phone, video, and in-person settings, ensuring seamless communication between parties.
- Facilitate conversations for medical appointments, legal proceedings, social services, community events, and other essential interactions.
- Accurately translate spoken or signed language into the target language while maintaining the original message’s intent and tone.
- Adapt to different dialects, cultural nuances, and technical terminology to deliver precise interpretations.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards outlined by professional interpreting organizations and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with clients and organizations to schedule on-call sessions and respond promptly to interpretation requests.
- Keep detailed records of assignments, including date, duration, language pair, and context of each session.
Skills
- Multilingual proficiency with fluency in at least two languages; additional languages are highly valued.
- Expertise in translation and interpretation techniques across spoken languages and American Sign Language (ASL).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey messages clearly and accurately under pressure.
- Deep understanding of linguistics principles to facilitate effective cross-cultural communication.
- Bilingual capabilities that enable smooth switching between languages during dynamic conversations.
- Excellent listening skills combined with quick thinking to interpret complex information accurately.
