Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Step into a fulfilling contract opportunity supporting elementary students as a Sign Language Interpreter in the 26/27 school year near Gig Harbor, WA. This in-person, student-centered position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact by ensuring full access to classroom instruction and activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Qualifications you’ll bring:
- Completion of an Interpreter Training Program
- Valid RID certification and/or an EIPA assessment score of 4.0 or above (required per Washington State law, effective 2023)
- Fingerprint clearance as well as successful WSP and FBI background/sexual misconduct checks
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License or proven mobility
- Experience in school environments is preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Key responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation in elementary classroom settings, facilitating clear communication between students, staff, and peers
- Adapt interpreting style to meet individual student needs, academic content, and extracurricular activities
- Support student participation throughout the school day: M, T, Th, F from 9:00am-3:30pm, and W from 10:00am-3:30pm
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and family members to promote student engagement and success
- Potential to work additional hours supporting extracurricular events as needed
