Position Overview
We are seeking certified ASL (American Sign Language) Medical Interpreters for in-person assignments in hospitals and healthcare facilities.

This is a contract-based position offering flexibility, competitive pay, and mileage reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, complete, and impartial ASL ↔ English interpretation in medical settings
- Facilitate effective communication between Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing patients and healthcare providers
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Americans with Disabilities Act, and National CLAS Standards
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professional ethics
- Arrive on time and conduct assignments professionally
- Accept and complete assignments through Metro Language Services’ scheduling platform
- Submit assignment details (time, mileage, notes) promptly after completion
Qualifications
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Active certification required:
- NIC (National Interpreter Certification)
- CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreter)
- Or equivalent Michigan-recognized credential
- Experience in medical or healthcare interpreting preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional demeanor and reliability
- Ability to travel to healthcare facilities within assigned regions
- Ability to pass background checks and meet hospital compliance requirements
Compensation & Benefits
- $40–$55 per hour (based on experience and certification)
- 2-hour minimum per assignment
- Mileage reimbursement: $0.70 per mile
