Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a contract Sign Language Interpreter for the 2025/2026 school year, starting as soon as possible and continuing through the end of the educational calendar. In this role, you'll facilitate clear communication between students, staff, and families through American Sign Language (ASL), empowering all learners to access educational opportunities fully.
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in school environments is highly valued
- Ability to adapt to various educational settings and support both group and one-on-one interactions
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and accessibility practices in academic contexts
- Relevant licensure or certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Flexibility and professionalism in a dynamic learning atmosphere
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpreting classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing
- Collaborating with teachers, special educators, and counselors to ensure seamless integration in the classroom
- Assisting with IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and extracurricular events as needed
- Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional interpreting standards
- Using technology to support remote interpreting if necessary
