Job Overview
We are seeking (both hourly and full time) a passionate and skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our dynamic team in Washington DC. and sorrounding cities This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to facilitate clear and effective communication for diverse audiences, ensuring accessibility and inclusion in various settings. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, professionalism, and a strong command of ASL to support our clients’ needs.
Duties
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during live interactions, meetings, events, and appointments
- Ensure accurate translation of complex concepts, technical terminology, and cultural nuances
- Collaborate with clients, organizations, and other interpreters to deliver seamless communication services
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards outlined by interpreting associations and legal guidelines
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant materials or context to enhance interpretation quality
- Trilingual interpreters encouraged to apply.
- Document interpretation sessions or incidents as necessary for record-keeping or reporting purposes
Qualifications
- In Person Interpreting and/or Virtual Interpreting
- Certification through RID, NAD, or BEI. Can consider VQAS (Virginia Quality Assurance for Virginia based) or EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment for educational interpreters) So long as VQAS or EIPA are pre-certified (passed written portion).
- 2 years documented professional experience
- Completion of Interpreter Training Program (ITP) or 4 years professional experience.
- Consider specialties such as tactile/pro-tactile (for deaf/blind) , Trilingual interpreters (ASL plus other languages). Legal certification (SC:L)
