Join our dynamic team as a RID Certified Remote ASL Interpreter and become a vital bridge in effective communication for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. In this role, you will provide high-quality American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services remotely, ensuring clear and accurate communication across diverse settings. Your expertise will empower individuals to connect, understand, and participate fully in various personal, educational, medical, legal, and professional interactions. Responsibilities
- Deliver precise ASL interpretation services remotely in real-time across multiple contexts, including medical appointments, educational sessions, business meetings etc.
- Utilize your proficiency in American Sign Language to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa with accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
- Conduct interpretation using various techniques such as simultaneous interpretation (interpreting in real-time) and consecutive interpretation (interpreting after a speaker pauses).
- Maintain strict adherence to professional ethics, confidentiality, and standards set by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
- Adapt to different communication styles and cultural nuances to ensure effective understanding between all parties involved.
- Collaborate with clients and team members to schedule assignments and ensure seamless service delivery.
- Keep detailed records of interpretations performed for documentation and quality assurance purposes.
Skills
- Certified as a RID Certified Interpreter with current credentials for remote ASL interpretation.
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with strong bilingual capabilities.
- Experience in over-the-phone interpretation (OPI) and video relay services (VRS) is highly desirable.
- Skilled in various interpretation techniques including consecutive, educational, medical and cultural interpretation.
- Deep understanding of professional ethics, confidentiality standards, and cultural competency within diverse communities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Multilingual abilities or experiinterpreting foreign languages are a plus but not required.
- Strong knowledge of linguistics principles related to interpretation and translation practices.
