Role Description
A+ Translations LLC is currently seeking qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters for contract-based on-site assignments across the Detroit Metro area. Interpreters will primarily assist in legal, immigration, and medical settings, facilitating accurate and professional communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and service providers.
Responsibilities include providing clear and accurate interpretation, maintaining confidentiality, conveying tone and intent appropriately, and adhering to professional interpreter ethics and standards of practice. Assignments may include hospital appointments, legal consultations, immigration interviews, educational settings, and other professional environments requiring ASL interpretation services.
Qualifications
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
• Minimum of three (3) years of professional interpreting experience in medical, legal, immigration, educational, and/or community settings
• Candidates must possess a recognized ASL interpreting certification such as:
* RID Certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)
* NIC Certification (National Interpreter Certification)
* BEI Certification (Board for Evaluation of Interpreters)
* State-recognized ASL interpreter credentials or equivalent certifications
* Completion of formal interpreter training through an accredited interpreter training program is required
* Strong understanding of Deaf culture and cultural competency
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to maintain professionalism, impartiality, and confidentiality in sensitive environments
* Familiarity with interpreter ethics and standards of practice
* Experience with Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) platforms is a plus
* Candidates located within the Detroit Metro area are strongly preferred
