Examples of Duties
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $18.56 to $21.57.
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
Serve As Maternal Child Health Programs Interpreter
- Provide real-time, accurate interpretation (in-person, phone, and/or virtual) between clients and staff
- Interpret for a variety of MCH services including WIC appointments, home visits, case management, support groups, and classes
- Convey information clearly and completely, maintaining tone, intent, and meaning without adding or omitting content
- Assist with sight translation of basic documents (forms, educational materials, consent forms)
Program Support
- Collaborate with MCH teams (WIC, Nurse-Family Partnership, Healthy Beginnings, Child Health, etc.) to support service delivery
- Assist with client flow, scheduling coordination, and follow-up as needed
- Support group sessions, outreach events, and community engagement activities as an interpreter
Cultural Mediation & Client Support
- Support culturally responsive communication between staff and clients
- Help clarify cultural nuances that may impact understanding of health information or services
- Promote a respectful, welcoming environment for all clients
Outreach & Community Engagement
- Assist with outreach to non-English-speaking communities
- Help translate outreach materials or provide input on culturally appropriate messaging
- Represent MCH programs at community events when needed
Documentation & Compliance
- Document interpretation encounters per agency guidelines
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies
- Adhere to interpreter code of ethics and standards of practice
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Demonstrated fluency in English and Spanish required.
- Candidate is required to pass a conversational test before hire.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Special knowledge, abilities, skills physical requirements and other factors: Must be fluent in Spanish and English. Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology in both English and Spanish is preferred; knowledge and acceptance of diverse cultures is essential.
