CONTRACT DURATION: 13 week contract with possibility of extending
SHIFT: Monday-Friday 9-5pm
LOCATION: New York, NY
ONBOARDING TIME: Expect 2-3 weeks from offer acceptance to start date.
PAY: $36-40hr
DETAILS ABOUT THE PATIENT COORDINATOR- ARABIC FLUENCY
Be the primary contact and coordinator for assigned international patients receiving care at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) who are under the care of an NYP affiliated physician. This includes coordination of the entire referral process from initial inquiry, receipt of medical records, determination of services needed, coordinating services delivered, interfacing with counselors and staff on financial and other administrative matters, and following-up as necessary after services are completed, including after the patient has returned home. Effectively represents International Services by providing personalized assistance and orientation to NYP facilities and physicians as well as providing information on lodging and other amenities available to the patient and his/her
family/guests. Exercises judgment in organizing all aspects associated with the patient’s visit and medical treatment at NYP in a culturally sensitive manner. Interfaces as required with the faculty physicians of Weill Cornell and Columbia medical schools and their respective physician organizations where applicable
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Healthcare Administration, International Relations, or related field (Required).
· 40+ hours of professional medical interpreter training, language proficiency assessment, or national certification (if interpretation is part of the role).
· Medical interpretation certification if performing interpreter duties - Arabic (Required)
· 3-5 years experience in a patient services environment in a tertiary care medical centers physician’s office, or related health care setting, or in public relations, or within the premier hospitality industry having direct contact with guests and the general public R
- Must possess communication and presentation skills to effectively interact in a cross-cultural setting while being culturally sensitive to international patients’ needs, concerns, and /or demands
- Fluency in English and Arabic, (Verbal and Written) as required by Departmental management and based on the geographic region targeted
JOB DUTIES:
Receives and evaluates requests for medical services, identifies the appropriate physician(s) and supports the development of the proposed plan of care. Functions as the liaison between hospital, physicians and patients seeking care at NYP throughout the process.
Interfaces with hospital department heads, clinical chiefs, physicians and staff in the preparation of treatment plans, estimates, and financial clearance. Communicates these to the patient and his/her family/guests.
Manages the physician appointment process according to patient needs (a specific physician vs. non-specific physician requests). Ensures that all appointments are coordinated in a timely manner. Uses discretion in selecting the appropriate physician(s) based on information provided by the patient and/or his/her referring physician.
Supervises the coordination of travel arrangements, hotel reservations and airport transportation.
Represents the Department in dealing with embassy personnel in the referral of foreign dignitaries and/or embassy employees and ensures that all financial information is provided to financial counselors.
Upon arrival at the medical center, provides immediate assistance and orientation to the patients and their family members and guests. Oversees registration and financial clearance process with the financial counselors.
Accompanies patients to physician appointments and visits inpatients on a daily basis. Frequency of daily visits varies according to patient needs and/or family requests.
Provides real-time language interpretation services during physician appointments and/or when receiving hospital services.
Responsible for maintaining a complete and up-to-date electronic record of all information related to the patient’s services in the Department’s International Patient Record System (IPRS). This includes tracking how and why a patient contacted NYP, complete demographics, and maintaining detailed notes on all activities so that any member of the Department can provide information as needed on a case.
Investigates, advocates and records patient concerns/complaints. Exercises appropriate judgment in solving these concerns by interacting with appropriate hospital personnel. Shares patient feedback with Senior Coordinator
and/or Director and, when possible, handles immediately and/or undertakes appropriate follow-up action.
Manages the post-discharge or post-service follow-up process by ensuring that patients receive copies of medical reports, physician instructions, prescriptions, etc. Places courtesy call one week after patient returns home and
remains in contact with patient as may be required until all follow-up has been completed.
Provides weekly and daily updates of the clinical status of current patients to the financial guarantors (Embassy or Insurance company).
Attends daily inpatient huddle, answers phone calls related to any patients concerns during work hours.
Assists the leadership of International Services with specific marketing activities, such as making presentations to healthcare, government and corporate audiences locally and internationally.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
