Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
This position offers an opportunity to provide essential communication support as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting located in Chicago, IL. The role involves delivering high-quality interpretation services for both Extended School Year (ESY) and Regular School Year programs, supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing full-day interpreter services during the Regular School Year, totaling approximately 330 minutes per day.
- Delivering Hearing Itinerant Services weekly, including 100 minutes of direct services and 180 minutes of consultation monthly.
- Supporting ESY services from June 15, 2026, to July 24, 2026, Monday through Friday, interpreting approximately 1100 minutes per week.
- Conducting Hearing Itinerant Services during ESY with 100 minutes per week of direct services and 75 minutes per month of consultation.
- Collaborating with educational staff and families to facilitate effective communication and access to the curriculum.
- Adhering to professional ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality in all interactions.
Qualifications and desired experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with certified interpreting credentials preferred.
- Experience working in educational settings, particularly with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Ability to manage various interpreting assignments, including individual and group settings.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting student learning and inclusion.
- Flexibility to work within established service schedules during both regular and extended school years.
