As a vital educational partner, you’ll work one-on-one with a high school student, ensuring clear communication and fostering a positive learning experience. This role follows the regular school schedule, allowing for a balanced work-life routine while you build ongoing relationships and see student growth firsthand.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Current proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting in educational settings
- Prior experience supporting Deaf or hard-of-hearing students preferred
- Familiarity with high school academic settings and classroom collaboration
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Ability to be onsite and maintain consistent attendance throughout the contract period
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) during classroom instruction, school activities, and events
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to ensure student needs are met
- Adapt interpreting approaches to suit the student’s learning style and classroom context
- Support the student in both academic and social situations within the school
- Assist in promoting understanding of Deaf culture and communication needs among peers and faculty
