Purpose of the Position:
The Country Head of Airfreight (CHAF) is responsible for the profitability, quality, performance, and growth of the Airfreight product in the Country. He/ She manages and is fully accountable for the Country Airfreight P&L down to CM2. He/ She acts in alignment with the CMD and works closely with Regional Airfreight and other products and functions within the Country, backed by globally aligned frameworks and concepts.
Responsibilities:
- Implements a countrywide blueprint for Airfreight Operations, including centralization of selected activities/flows within a globally agreed framework.
- Functionally leads Airfreight Operations in Branches (Customer Service and Operational Service)
- Is accountable and responsible for Country Airfreight productivity, quality, and Customer Performance and takes corrective action where required.
- Ensures timely and accurate invoicing and job costing in country Airfreight Operations.
- Ensures country Airfreight operations are compliant with external regulations and internal policies (incl. e.g. Airfreight Safety and Security, DG qualifications, GDP compliance).
- Is consulted for and approves hiring into Airfreight positions in Branches.
- Develops new business jointly with CMD and Head of Sales. Directs efforts of Field Sales in alignment with Head of Sales.
- Develops and maintains relationships with major customers.
- Manages local Airfreight procurement and subcontractor performance and compliance in line with global carrier strategy and standards.
- Implements aligned global and regional Airfreight projects.
- Escalates to RHAF where conflicting top-down priorities inhibit meeting the above remit.
- Demonstrate full business ownership including P&L performance, forecast accuracy and timely corrective actions to close performance gaps.
- Apply fact-based and data-driven decision making and translate business information into clear recommendations and measurable actions.
- Demonstrate strong commercial acumen and build a close, constructive partnership with Country Sales. Previous Sales, Business Development or Commercial experience in freight forwarding is strongly preferred.
- Work jointly with Sales in identifying target customers, trade lanes and business opportunities, developing commercially competitive solutions while protecting sustainable GP and CM contribution.
- Bring solutions together with problems. Escalations should clearly state business impact, available options, recommendation and support required.
- Maintain proactive and transparent communication with the CMD, ensuring early escalation of material risks and avoiding preventable surprises.
- Translate agreed strategies and decisions into clear actions with ownership, milestones and measurable outcomes, ensuring disciplined follow-through to closure.
- Act with a Country-wide perspective and develop a strong organization through clear performance management, talent development and succession planning
