Interpreter

University of Utah Health is hiring a part-time Interpreter for Huntsman Cancer Hospital. The position provides foreign-language interpretation and written translation for patients, families, healthcare staff, physicians, students, and other participants who do not speak English.

Responsibilities

• Interpret communication between healthcare staff and non-English-speaking patients and families.
• Translate educational materials and documents using appropriate readability guidelines.
• Follow up with patients, answer questions, and help them complete medical, financial, and related forms.
• Escort patients to the appropriate service area.
• Support patient education and discharge planning with nursing and rehabilitation staff when needed.
• Communicate accurately, clearly, concisely, and impartially in a healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a foreign language or an accepted equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret spoken communication and translate written material accurately.
• Strong communication and human-relations skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining composure, productivity, and sensitivity in healthcare settings.
• Medical terminology knowledge may be required depending on departmental needs.

This is a regular, part-time, on-site position at Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City. The work schedule and shift are variable.
