Duties

• Provide on-site interpretation services for medical consultations, examinations, and procedures across various healthcare departments.
• Accurately translate medical terminology and clinical information between English and other languages, including American Sign Language (ASL) when applicable.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and clinical confidentiality policies during all interpretation activities.
• Assist healthcare staff in understanding cultural nuances to promote clinical cultural competency standards and improve patient outcomes.
• Document interpretation sessions thoroughly in accordance with medical records protocols, ensuring clarity and accuracy for future reference.
• Support social work teams by interpreting during child protective services interactions or other social support services.
• Utilize video remote interpretation (VRI) tools when on-site interpretation is unavailable or additional support is needed.

Experience

• Proven experience in medical interpretation, including translating complex medical terminology accurately across multiple languages.
• Multilingual proficiency in English plus at least one other language; fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA regulations, clinical ethical guidelines, and confidentiality policies within healthcare settings.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt cross-cultural communication techniques to diverse patient populations.
• Experience working in hospital environments or with medical records, documentation review, and healthcare documentation standards.
• Background in social work or child protective services interactions that involve sensitive information handling is a plus.
