Sr Translator (Contractor)

Panasonic Energy Corporation of North America is seeking a Senior Translator contractor to support communication between Japanese and local personnel at its Sparks, Nevada operation. The role combines high-level Japanese-English interpreting, written translation, terminology work, and mentoring of other translators.

Responsibilities

• Provide simultaneous, consecutive, liaison, and chuchotage interpreting for executives, customers, individual discussions, group meetings, and online meetings.
• Translate technical and non-technical materials between Japanese and English using appropriate manufacturing and engineering terminology.
• Maintain confidentiality around meeting agendas and sensitive business topics.
• Share terminology and language knowledge with the translation team.
• Guide and train other translators and develop onboarding and training materials.
• Support staff coordination, scheduling, presentations, improvement activities, and related operational needs.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native Japanese and English, including at least ILR Level 4+ proficiency in the non-native language.
• At least five years of interpreting experience in manufacturing or comparable mechanical, electrical, chemical-engineering, maintenance, or repair environments.
• Ability to interpret complex production processes, equipment, and technical terminology accurately.
• Experience with remote-interpreting software, simultaneous-interpreting equipment, and Microsoft applications.
• Prior lead-interpreter experience, CAT-tool experience, lean manufacturing/TPS/Six Sigma knowledge, and translation/interpreting certification are preferred.

This is an on-site contractor role in Sparks, Nevada. The work may require personal protective equipment, and applicants must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
